Dorothy "Dot" Sitler, age 85, of Scott Township, died Monday morning, May 26, 2014, in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA with her family at her side. Dot was admitted to the hospital earlier in the day, but she had been in failing health for several years.
Dot was born on Wednesday, October 10, 1928 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Arthur and Arlene (Decker) Spaid. In 1946, Dot completed her education after graduating from the Bloomsburg High School. She remained active with her class Alumni activities and served in various offices. Class reunions were very important to her. Her early years were spent working at Dairy Maid, and the former Scott School Cafeteria. The majority of Dot's working career was spent in the Custodial Department of Bloomsburg University. She retired in 1991 with 20 years of faithful service.
Dot was an avid reader. She loved traveling and camping with her family at World's End State Park. During her younger years she was a member of the former First Church of Christ, Bloomsburg. She was a life member of the Espy Fire Co. Auxiliary and American Legion Post 273 Auxiliary. Also she was a Girl Scout Leader for 20 years.
On September 1, 1984, Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert F. Sitler, Sr. A marital span of 37 years was severed. Survivors include five children: Susan K. Yodock of Catawissa, Mia L Kiefer and husband, Jeff, of Bloomsburg, Robert F. Sitler, Jr. of Bloomsburg, Sally A. Sitler of Bloomsburg and Terry L Sitler and wife, Maureen of Topton, PA; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a brother Glen A. Spaid and wife, "Susie" of Bloomsburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dot was preceded in death by three siblings: Dale K. Spaid, Donald E. Spaid and Inez Wagner.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, May 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will held on Friday morning, May 30 at 10 a.m. also from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg with Rev. A.J. Morris of the Cogan Station United Methodist Charge, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Sitler family.
