Donald E. Strausser, Sr., age 85, of Bloomsburg, died on Sunday morning, June 21, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Don was born on Friday, September 6, 1929 in Bloomsburg a son of the late William, Sr. and Dorothy (Johnson) Strausser.
Don attended the Danville schools. He honorably served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
For 22 years Don was employed by the Town of Bloomsburg in the Maintenance Department. He was a familiar presence on street maintenance projects. He retired on September 6, 1991. In addition to his service to the community, Don was a life member of the Bloomsburg Fire Co. and the Firemen's Relief Association. He was also a life member of the Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273 and Danville VFW Post #298.
On May 30, 1953 Donald Strausser married Margaret Myers. At the time of Margaret's death on December 12, 2010, they were married 57 years.
Survivors include three daughters: Debra Gelnett and husband, James, of Port Trevorton; Rose A. Strausser of Bloomsburg; and Ruth Windings of VillaRidge, IL; a son: Donald E. Strausser, Jr. and wife, Beth of South Mills, NC; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; five siblings: Sandra Ikeler of Danville; Jack Strausser and wife, Alice, of Danville; James Strausser, Sr. of Danville; Rodney Strausser and wife, Jean, of Herndon; and Jan Sheperson and husband, Terry, of Danville.
Don was preceded in death by six siblings: William Strausser, Jr., Shirley Jordan, Dale Strausser, Richard Strausser, Donna Diehl and Wayne Strausser.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, June 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday morning, June 29, at 10 a.m. also from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg with Rev. David Borton, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
