Donald E. Rubenstein Sr., age 90, of Bloomsburg, died on Friday, November 4, 2016, a resident of Brookdale Bloomsburg Assisted Living.
Donald was born on Friday, December 11, 1925 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Alvale "Ray", Sr. and Bertha (Michael) Rubenstein. Throughout his younger years, Donald attended the Bloomsburg area schools, and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1944. Prior to graduation ceremonies, Donald was drafted into the US Army. He faithfully served his country during World War II in the European Theater as well as with Occupation Forces in Japan
On November 27, 1946, Donald married his loving wife, Sara I. (Wolfe) Rubenstein. They celebrated 69 years of marriage prior to Sara's passing on March 1, 2015.
For over 17 years, Donald was employed by Bloomsburg University as a Police Officer until his retirement. Previously, he was employed by Magee Carpet Co. for over 25 years with his last responsibilities being a Supervisor.
Donald was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mifflinville where he enjoyed being a member of the church choir. He was also a life member of the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273.
In addition to his parents and wife, Donald was preceded by six siblings: Ray Rubenstein, Jr., Fred Rubenstein, Frank Rubenstein, Hazel Beyers, Anna Joline, Maynard Rubenstein.
Survivors include his daughter: Linda K. (Dennis) Chapin of Berwick, PA, sons: Donald E. (Tammy) Rubenstein, Jr. of Berwick and Richard A. (Paula) Rubenstein of Stillwater; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; sisters: Dawn (Jerry) Tumminello of Lewes, DE and Nancy Chapman of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with his pastor, Rev. Brian D. Vasey, officiating. Graveside committal services with military honors will immediately follow in the Elan Memorial Park. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Rubenstein family.
