Donald K. Kern, age 87, of Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Donald was a resident of Bloomsburg for over 45 years.
Donald was born on Wednesday, October 31, 1928 in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania, the only son of the late Karl W. and LaVerne T. (Trusscott) Kern . Throughout his younger years, Donald attended the Danville area schools, and later graduated from the Danville High School in 1946.
For most of his working career, Donald was employed by Kern Motors of Danville and was working as recently as Thursday. During his younger years he was employed by his uncle, Frank Aten, of Nescopeck.
Donald was a member of the Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Nescopeck. He was also a member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge #436 B.P.O.E. and a former member Bloomsburg Moose L.O.O.M #623 . Donald enjoyed spending his time volunteering with Meals on Wheels, he enjoyed bowling, loved to play cards, enjoyed visiting with people, and was an avid attendee of church suppers. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded by his wife of 21 years, Geraldine (Stout) Kern.
Survivors include a son, Scott W. Kern, Sr and wife, Molly of Berwick, a daughter, Debra K. Green of Mifflinville, PA, three granddaughters, Melissa Kern, Amy Green and Laura Green, a grandson, Scott Kern, Jr., and great grandchildren Zander Unger and Callie Balliet. He will be missed by his girl friend, Shriley Fester.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 10 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Jessica Kingsborough, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Kern family.
