Donald R. Fisher, Jr., age 81, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Glenbrook Rehabilitation and Health Center, Berwick. He was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg.
Donald was born on Saturday, December 25, 1943 in Danville, the son of the late Donald R. and Catharine L. (Foust) Fisher. He graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1961. He expanded his education by attending Williamsport Area Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Forestry. He faithfully served in the United States Army from November 7, 1964 and was honorably discharged on March 12, 1965. He then did five more years in the Army Reserve. On July 23, 1966, Donald married his loving wife, the former Sonia Gassert.
For over 27 years, he was employed as a Rural Post Office Carrier, Bloomsburg until his retirement. Donald was a member of the Shiloh Bible Church, Bloomsburg. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 273 and NRA, a 60-year member of Mason Lodge 265, Bloomsburg and many years with Mainville Sportsman Club. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching and was an outdoorsman. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He had many fond memories of the activities with his friends, especially the 45 years with "The Gang".
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Sonia Fisher of Bloomsburg; two children: Heather A. Walton and husband Jim of Hughesville, Brandon S. Fisher and wife Sharon of Bloomsburg; a granddaughter, Breanna A. Benson and husband Mitchell of Waymart; two grandsons: Parker S. Voitek and fiancee, Rebecca of Williamsport, Auston Donald Fisher of Bloomsburg, and he was excited to be welcoming his first great-granddaughter in April.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:00 am at Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church St., Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, officiating.
Private Graveside committal services will be held at the convenience of the family in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy with military honors provided by The Columbia County Honor Guard. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Fisher family.
