Obituary

Denise I. Van Epps, age 67, of Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer on Saturday, February 4, 2023, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

She was born on Monday, January 2, 1956 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late John J. and Pauline R. (Hummel) Krum. She graduated from the Bloomsburg Area High School in 1973 and expanded her education by attending Bloomsburg University, graduating in 1977 with a bachelor's degree. On May 24, 1975, Denise married her loving husband, Timothy G. Van Epps of Bloomsburg. For over 22 years, she was employed by the Bloomsburg Area School District as a Teacher until her retirement in 2017. Denise was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where she served as Youth Group Leader. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Girl Scout Leader, Band Boosters, Elementary School PTO, and Beta Sigma Phi Social Sorority. Denise enjoyed the Beatles, bowling, loved volunteering for swim meets through her kids' lives, swimming, university staff volleyball, traveling, most recently her bucket list trip to the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany and good desserts! In addition to be a loving wife and mother, after her children grew, she was a talented ESL teacher. Her good hearted and gentle nature will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She always had a love of foods, travel and how she could share these experiences with others.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 47 years, Timothy G. Van Epps of Bloomsburg; two daughters, Amanda Fleischer and husband Peter of King of Prussia, Alyse McDowell and husband Joseph of Mercersburg; three granddaughters: Anna Fleischer and Eva Fleischer of King of Prussia, Cora McDowell of Mercersburg, and one grandson Van McDowell of Mercersburg; one brother, Dennis Krum and wife Tracy of Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will begin on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 Market St., Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Joel Zeiders, officiating. Private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family in New Columbus Cemetery. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth St. Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Van Epps family.
