Delmar W. "Demps" Harter, age 95, of Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday, December 25, 2012 a resident of Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He had been in failing health for several years.
Delmar was born on Wednesday, July 18, 1917 in Wapwallopen, a son of the late William and Ora (Garrison) Harter. He was a member of the 1935 Graduating Class of the former Nescopeck High School. Following his high school education, Delmar served his country faithfully during World War II after joining United States Navy. On November 7, 1945, Delmar concluded his service to his country, and was honorably discharged as a Metal smith First Class of the United States Navy in Bainbridge, Maryland. Until his retirement in 1982, Delmar was employed by Foster Wheeler in Mountain Top as a welder. Prior, he was employed by AC&F of Milton. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Espy, and was also a member for Bloomsburg Moose L.O.O.M. #263.
Delmar was preceded by his first wife: Frances (Ashworth) Harter in 1951, his second wife Lillian (Force) Harter on April 17, 2010, and also by a sister: Lucretia Dawson.
Survivors include two daughters: Carol Ann Klinger of Berwick; and Frances McConnell and husband, David, of Hughesville; three sons: Jay Harter and wife, Cathy, of Hallstead; Robert Harter and wife, Dawn, of Wapwallopen; and Matthew Harter of Bloomsburg; ten grandchildren: Jennifer McConnell, Heather Reitz, Daniel, McConnell, Megan Harter, Laura Samson, Grant Harter, Robert Harter, Erica Pyzia, Steven Klinger and Crystal Eisenhauer; 10 great-grandchildren and also by a sister: Lois Kelshaw of Bloomsburg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 31, from 10 to 11 am. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Monday, December 31 at 11 am. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in Bloomsburg with his pastor, Susan Rogutski, officiating. Graveside services will be held with a combined group of American Legion/VFW providing Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick
