Obituary

Deb lived a loud, joyous and boisterous life, survived the most unbearable sorrow, and died peacefully on August 28, 2013, in the company of her loving family.
Deb was born on Saturday, November 11, 1944, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Keeler) Evans. In 1962, Deb completed her high school education as a graduate of Bloomsburg High School. She continued her education at Bloomsburg State Teachers College, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1966. In 1990, Deb was employed as an Executive Assistant with the American Red Cross Chapter Office, and retired in 1997 as the Assistant Director of the Homeless Shelter of the American Red Cross Bucks County Chapter. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Susquehanna Valley in Northumberland. She was a member of the local FEMA board, served on the Area Aging Board, and the Bloomsburg Presbyterian Homes Board.
In 2007, Deb was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne Marek, and was also preceded by her son, Chad in 1994 and her daughter, Janette in 1999.
Survivors include a brother, Thomas C. Evans and wife, Cindy, of Canton; and a sister, the Rev. Ann Keeler Evans and husband, Steve Mitchell, of Lewisburg.
Deb's final wishes were that you will learn from her and stop smoking. If you cannot stop smoking, please have regular chest x-rays. She always felt that if you can afford to smoke, you can afford to have an x-ray.
A funeral service to celebrate Deb's life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, 345 Market Street in Bloomsburg with the Rev. Steve Cureton and her sister, the Rev. Ann Keeler Evans, celebrating. Deb is currently under the care of the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
In lieu of flowers, Deb asked that we work in and contribute faithfully to our communities, that we enjoy the company of our family and friends, and that when we remember her, we raise our glasses to the richness of life.
