Obituary
Dawn M. Whalen, age 89, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020, a resident of The Gardens at Orangeville. Dawn was a resident of her home in South Centre Twp. for over 50 years.
She was born on Sunday, November 15, 1931 in Espy, a daughter of the late Lewis and Elsa (English) Miller. Dawn graduated from the former Scott Twp. High School in 1949. In 1960, Dawn married her loving husband, Dorvin M. "Bud" Whalen who preceded her in death on March 27, 1997. For over 20 years, Dawn was employed by Milco Industries as a seamstress. Dawn was a 75 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy. She enjoyed spending her time hunting, fishing, camping, crocheting and loved spending time at her camp at Saxe's Pond in Dushore.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dawn was also preceded in death by a step son, Gary L. Whalen, Sr., on November 15, 2020, a brother, Lewis F. Miller, Jr. and a sister Leiatrice Arlene Miller.
Survivors include a step daughter, Gladys M. wife of Donald Bennett, Sr. of Orangeville, three grandchildren; Donald L. Bennett, Jr. and wife Brenda of Bloomsburg, Gary L. Whalen, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Berwick, Monica Marie wife of Christopher Welsh of Buckhorn, a step daughter-in-law; Linda M. Whalen of Berwick, three great-grandchildren; Douglas Bennett, Breanna Bennett, Elizabeth Whalen, ten-great-great grandchilden; Crue & Carys Harner, Brooks Bennett, Georgia & Olivia Schell, Sara Young, Jason Whalen, Vanessa Welsh, Charles Welsh, Katie Killian and two brothers, Kenneth Leroy Miller of Norristown and Calvin Dean Miller of New Jersey.
Private funeral services will be held at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg with Pastor Chuck Chamberlain, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Whalen family.
