David M. Townsend, age 78, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Monday morning, November 13, 2023, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
He was born on Friday, April 27, 1945 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Max A. and Irene (Fritz) Townsend. He attended the former Scott Twp. High School. At the age of 16, his father gave him permission to enlist in the United States Army, he faithfully served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. On December 20, 1974, he married his loving wife, the former Maureen P. Moore. He was employed by Metropolitan Trucking Company as a truck driver until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW Post #804, Bloomsburg. David enjoyed gardening and he had fond memories helping his dad on the farm.
In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Townsend and a brother-in-law, Earl P. Leiby.
Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 48 years, Maureen P. Townsend of Bloomsburg, a daughter, Julie Stubo and husband Michael, two stepchildren; Charles Klinger and Rosemary Klinger, ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two sisters, Patricia Parks and husband Bruce of Bloomsburg and Shirley Ann Leiby of Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg with Rev. Greg Moore, Chaplain of American Legion Post #273, Bloomsburg, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the combined V.F.W. and American Legion Honor Guard. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Townsend family.
