David R. Auten, age 90, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. David was residing in the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Beaver Township.

He was born on Sunday, May 12, 1935 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Ellis Ray and Irma K. (Long) Auten. Throughout his younger years, he attended the Bloomsburg area schools, and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1953. After high school, David joined the Army, faithfully serving during the Korean War, working as a mechanic. On August 19, 1961, David married his loving wife, the former Bertha A. "Bert" Shoup, who preceded him in death on November 2, 2012. For many years, he worked as a mechanic at the Bloomsburg Airport and a VW dealership in Hazleton. Until retirement, he was employed by Kawneer as a machine operator. David enjoyed spending his time farming, haymaking, and taking his children to horse shows when they were younger, as well as dune buggy races.

In addition to his wife and parents, David was also preceded by his brothers: Dean Auten and Dennis Auten.

Survivors include his beloved children: Steven G. Auten and wife, Lillie, of Bloomsburg, Mary B. Meek and husband, Nathan of Stillwater; three grandchildren: Stevi R. Auten, Bethany R. Meek, and Trevor E. Meek; as well as his sister, Donna Smith of Saylorsburg.

A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.

Funeral Services will begin on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Michael Spagnuolo, Catawissa Christian Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. Military honors will be presented by the Columbia County Honor Guard.
