Colan R. Combs, age 82, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021, a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Colan was a resident of his home in South Centre Twp. for over 46 years.
He was born on Monday, July 17, 1939 in King City, MO a son of the late Ralph E. and Wilma (Allenbrand) Combs. Colan graduated from the King City High School, King City, MO in 1957. On July 7, 1957, Colan married his loving wife, the former Carol Lee Brooke. For over 12 years, Colan was employed by Metropolitan Trucking Company as a Truck Driver until his retirement. Colan enjoyed spending his time as a truck driver for over 35 years and was known as Poor Devil. He was a member of the National Guard in Buchanan County, Missouri.
He was a farmer at heart with a good sense of humor and made humorous CB "Public Announcements" for fellow truck drivers. He was the Golden Voice of Montour Antique Farm Machinery Association Tractor Shows. He was known as "Big Dad" to so many. Colan was an avid gardener and loved his pets. He couldn't go anywhere without running into someone he knew or instantly making a new friend. He was a storyteller extraordinaire that was larger than life. He enjoyed latch hook, teaching himself banjo and gave great bear hugs.
In addition to his parents, Colan was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Glenn Combs, a daughter, Tresa Diann Neiderhiser, and a brother, William Lewis Combs.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Carol Lee Combs; three children, son, Richard Allan Combs and wife Milli of Orangeville, daughter, Tamra Lea Combs of Bloomsburg, son, Garry Keith Combs and wife Tonya of Mt. Pleasant, WI; seven grandchildren, Syreeta Rachelle Combs-Cannaday and husband Richie, Nicole Renee Iacovoni and husband Thomas, Kristopher Jason Welz, Dr. Tarra Anne Combs-Christensen and husband Zach, Megan Lea Combs and husband Christopher Maydick, Richard Allan Combs II, Kassi Leah Pribula and husband Vlad; nine great-grandchildren, Irene, Judah, Simone, Elan, Adley, Mia, Owen, Sloane, Ryland, a sister, Doris Elaine Weigart of Savannah, MO, and a son-in-law, Dr. Robert A. Neiderhiser of Bloomsburg.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg.
Memorial services will begin on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10:00 am at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Dr. Lee Barnhardt, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.
