Clair M. Schwalm's Obituary

Clair M. Schwalm, age 85, a resident of Levi Lane, Catawissa since 1996 died on Monday, October 03, 2011 surrounded by family at his home.
Clair was born on Thursday, February 11, 1926 in Valley View, a son of the late Millard and Irene (Bixler) Schwalm. Throughout his earlier years, he attended the Valley View Area Schools. Following his education, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. During his working career, he was owner and operator of Schwalm's Café in Valley View for over ten years. He was also employed as a coal miner for over 40 years and a truck driver for over 12 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending his time in the outdoors. He was also a very dedicated fan to NASCAR racing. He was a member of the Underground Rescue EMT, the American Legion, a Masonic member, and from 1988 to 1996 he spent his time traveling through all the states, except Alaska, in his RV.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 23 years, Joan (Mace) McCurley; five children: Claire Nicksic and husband, James, of Lititz, PA; Deborah Schwartz and husband, William, of Hegins, PA; Steve Schwalm of Lavelle, PA; Kevin Schwalm and wife, Shirley, of Pitman, PA; Jodi Spotts and husband, James, of Pottsville; three step-children: John McCurley of Wilkes-Barre; Cheryl Yoder and husband, Phil, of Nescopeck; and Lori Clemens and husband, Greg, of Berwick; fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and sisters: Vera Kimmel of Valley View, PA and Dora Mae Wagner and husband, William, of Hegins, PA,
Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public services at this time. Graveside services will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Arrangements are under the direction of the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, c/o Columbia County Unit, 1948 East 3rd Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
