Christopher Nilson Wilcox, 29, son of Bruce and Victoria Wilcox, Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2019 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on September 8, 1989, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Chris was born with a variety of physical and cognitive difficulties, but led a life full of laughter, smiles, love and activity provided by his family, friends and two special organizations. At age two, Chris was one of the original seven riders at Eos Therapeutic Riding Center and participated in horseback riding through the end of the 2018 season. The loving care provided by Debbie Smith, Debby Reifendifer, Denise Treven and volunteers at Eos made his time there some of the happiest of his life. He resided for many years at St. Joseph's Center in Scranton and for the past ten years at the St. Joe's group home in Swoyersville, PA. The amazing staff at St. Joe's loved him as their own and gave him expert care and daily experiences that made his life full and enjoyable. Several of the staff joined his parents at his beside for his last moments.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Meredith Wilcox-Levine and her husband Christopher, Carmel, N.Y.; aunt Leslie Beckwith (Simuel), Danville and uncle Steve Nilson (Kathy), Mendocino, CA; cousins Joshua Landesman (Lynne), Glen Allen, VA, Ethan Landesman, Knoxville, TN, Seth Landesman, Valencia, CA, and Simuel Beckwith Jr., Danville.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bert and Dorothy Wilcox, New Hartford, NY, and J.R. and Jean Nilson, Bedford, NH, and aunt Barbara Landesman, Bloomsburg.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday April 6 at 1:30 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Main and Iron Streets, Bloomsburg. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 with interment immediately following in St. Paul's Memorial Garden.
