Charles "Chic" S. Thackara, age 92, a life-long resident of Bloomsburg, died on Monday, August 6, 2012 a resident at Grandview Health Homes, Danville. Chic was a resident of East Seventh Street in Bloomsburg since 1971.
Chic was born on Thursday, April 29, 1920 in Bloomsburg a son of the late Edward and Vinnie (Trump) Thackara. He was a member of the 1938 Graduating Class of the Bloomsburg High School. Following his education, Chic served with the United States Army 34th Infantry Division as a Sergeant during World War II across North Africa and Italy. During his deployment overseas, he was wounded and later received the recognition of the Purple Heart.
After returning home from serving his country, Chic was employed by the Electrolux Corp. where he sold, distributed and repaired vacuum cleaners throughout Bloomsburg and Columbia County for over 60 years. He was also a member of multiple organizations including the Bloomsburg Kiwanis, a life member of the 34th Infantry Division Assoc., a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and also the Bloomsburg Little League Association for over 40 years.
Chic was preceded in death by a sister the late Phyllis Chepey.
Survivors include his beloved wife of with whom he would have celebrated a 71st anniversary on August 13th, Helen C. Casey. Also surviving are two sons: William C. Thackara and wife, Jane, of Danville; and Robert A. Thackara and wife, Sharon, of Bloomsburg; a daughter: Frances A. Mills and husband, Robert, of Millville; five grandchildren: Christie, Myriah Jo, Anthony, Richard, and Brett; three great-grandchildren: Jeremy, Cory and Ryan; and also a niece: Helen Driesbach and husband, Lee, of Catawissa.
A Private Graveside Service will be held in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Thackara family is being assisted by the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
