Charles A. Burkland, Sr. age 82, of North Center Twp., Columbia County, died on Friday afternoon, June 20, 2014 in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was admitted earlier in the day.
Charles was born on Friday, March 26, 1932 in Gearhart Twp., Northumberland Co., PA a son of the late Walter G. and Helen I. (Temple) Burkland. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Charles entire working career was a mechanic and truck driver. He was last employed by Joseph Delbo Trucking.
On January 18, 1995 Charles' wife, Janet (Shultz) Burkland died severing a marital span of 44 years.
Survivors include four daughters: Susan M. Fox and husband, John, of Bloomsburg, Sally J. Burkland of Berwick, Sherry L Parr and husband, Steven, of Mifflinville and Judy L Hess and husband, Rodney, of Berwick; three sons: Rodney F. Burkland and wife, Ann, of Orangeville, Jeffrey B. Burkland and wife, Patricia, of Bloomsburg and Charles A. Burkland, Jr. and wife, Diane, of Bloomsburg; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by three children: Cindy S. Burkland in 1957, Joseph Burkland in July 2012 and Guy in August 2013.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth St. Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Burkland family.
