Charles R. Beltz, age 93, of Bloomsburg passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 while on vacation with his family in Venice, FL. He was born June 13, 1930 in Slabtown, son of the late Charles and Muriel (Shoup) Beltz. Charlie attended Bloomsburg schools and was a veteran of the US Navy.
Always a huge sports fan and athlete, as a young father, he enjoyed coaching his son's little league baseball teams. Charles married Alice (Eisenhauer) Beltz in 1974, and her passing less than two months ago ended their 49-year union. Charlie and Alice embodied the epitome of love, showcasing a profound connection that stood the test of time. Since her passing, Charlie felt a deep sense of loss, missing Alice every day. One of their greatest loves, besides family, was Penn State football and Charlie and Alice had season tickets from 1975 through 2011. They attended nearly all home and away games, including most of the bowl games all over the country throughout all those years, either in their motorhome or on Penn State tours, which they enjoyed with many dear friends. They also loved Bloomsburg University Men's Basketball during the Charlie Chronister years and were supporters of Bloomsburg University Women's Softball during the Jan Hutchinson years, where they loved to watch the team at spring break every year in Florida.
Charlie retired from TRW (Textron) after 35 years in 1991, only a couple years after Alice retired, and they spent the winters in FL in their motorhome through 2012 where they enjoyed happy hour every day at 4:00. He was a member of the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge. Charlie was very athletic, and he was well above average in anything he tried. He was a member of several men's bowling leagues in the 1960's and 1970's with an average better than most. He then discovered a love for golf, and he was a member of Frosty Valley Country Club for decades where he had served on the greens committee. Charlie was an excellent golfer and was a popular choice to complete any foursome because of his talent. He won many championships throughout the years and could golf better than many men half his age. He continued his love for golf and would be at Frosty Valley, Arnolds, or the Links three or four times a week until Alice developed health issues in 2019, he then stopped playing so he could take care of her, which he did for the rest of her life.
Always an avid sports fan, Charlie loved the Phillies and Giants, and enjoyed watching Sportscenter and The Herd. He was well versed on most professional golfers, football and baseball teams, players and loved talking about and watching sports, including his granddaughter, Courtney and great grandson, Kolten during their high school and college basketball, softball and baseball careers.
In addition to his parents and wife, Alice, Charlie was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Marr.
