Catherine Kingsbury, age 87, a former resident of Loyalton of Bloomsburg and Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died Friday evening, July 25, 2014 in Geisinger-Bloomsburg Health Care Center where she had resided since 2009.
Catherine was born on Tuesday, October 5, 1926 in Berwick a daughter of the late Herman and Pearl (Shadle) Funk.
Following her graduation from the Benton High School in 1944, Catherine continued her educational training in the former Bloomsburg Hospital School of Nursing. When that program ended she completed her credentials as a Registered Nurse at the Harrisburg General Hospital School of Nursing.
Catherine's working career was concluded in 1988 when she retired from the Central Columbia School District Cafeteria with over 25 years of service.
Catherine was a faithful member of Shiloh Bible Church, Almedia.
On June 17, 1948, Catherine married Donald W. "Bill" Kingsbury. A marital span of 38 years was severed when Bill died very suddenly on February 18, 1987.
Survivors include two daughters: Donna Hollopeter and husband, Jason, of Huntington, IN and Luanne Bittenbender and husband, Alan, of Bloomsburg; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a brother: John Funk and wife, Gladys, of Blandon PA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Catherine was preceded in death by two sisters: Florence Kelchner in 2004 and Emma Lu Savage in 2010.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will follow on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Douglas Lyon, officiating; assisted by her son-in-law, Rev. Jason Hollopeter. Burial will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery.
