Bloomsburg

Cary James Rhodomoyer, 78, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at his home in Scott Township.

Cary was born November 20, 1947 to the late Rolland Sr. and Mary Phyllis (Appleman) Rhodomoyer. Shortly after graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1956, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Cary served as gunner and crew chief of aircraft providing close air support. He was responsible for counter attacks during ambushes and flew approximately 225 combat hours. He ultimately received the Air Medal as well as a Purple Heart. Cary continued his commitment to his country by working as a recruiter for the Army Reserves. In more recent years, Cary, alongside his fellow soldiers who suffer from Post War Syndrome, would captivate students by going to public schools and sharing their story.

On August 8, 1983, Cary married the love of his life, the former Barbara Andreas, who preceded him in death on November 20, 2024.

Cary worked many years for Kawneer before working for, and eventually retiring from, Miele Vending in 2004. Cary was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post 273, Bloomsburg Elks Lodge #436, and volunteered in various capacities for the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society, including serving on the Board of Directors, chairingthe computer committee, and serving on the photo committee. Cary had a love for animals, especially his dog, Nixi. He often looked forward to working at the Veterans Stand during the Bloomsburg Fair and loved spending his time swimming at the Berwick YMCA. Cary was a master of many things, and his family lovingly called him “Mr. Gadget”. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. Cary will always be remembered for his kind, loving disposition, his endless sense of humor, and most of all, his generosity.

In addition to his parents and wife of more than 41 years, Barbara, Cary was preceded in death by a sister, Sheri Rhodomoyer.

Survivors include his beloved daughter, Kim Oberlin and her husband, Dan, of Bloomsburg; two grandsons: Broc Kline and Jacob Mylet; and siblings: Susan Seiple, and Roland J. Rhodomoyer and wife, Judy.
