Carol J. (Marino) Devaney, age 65, of Bloomsburg, died on Friday afternoon, January 16, 2015 surrounded by her family as a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Carol had courageously battled her ill health for over the past five years.
Carol was born on Monday, February 14, 1949 in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Michael and Agnes (Monka) Marino. Throughout her younger years, she attended and later graduated in 1967 from the Hanover High School in Wilkes-Barre. On January 15, 1972, Carol married her loving husband, Joseph J. Devaney of Wilkes-Barre. For over 15 years, Carol was employed as a receptionist at the former Bloomsburg Hospital until her retirement in 2009. She was also a member of the St. Columba Catholic Parish in Bloomsburg for over 30 years.
Surviving is her beloved husband, Joseph J. Devaney, of Bloomsburg, having celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on Thursday, January 15th. Survivors also include two sons: Michael J. Devaney and wife, Michele, of Harrisburg; and Joseph M. Devaney and wife, Stephanie, of Washington D.C.; two daughters: Carolyn Stauss of Patterson, NY; and Theresa Devaney of Bloomsburg; five grandchildren; a brother: Michael Marino and wife, Jenny, of Frederick, MD; and five sisters: Janice Burguieres and husband, Tom, of New Orleans, LA; Susan Serdensky and husband, Robert, of Frederick, MD; Mary Secor and husband, David, of Reading; and Margaret Lebo also of Reading; and Linda Abell and husband, Kevin, of Cary, NC.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday morning, January 21 at 10 a.m. at the St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron and Third Street in Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, as celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. An open house time of fellowship will be held on Wednesday afternoon, January 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the family's home, 220 Crabapple Lane, Bloomsburg, PA 17815. The Allen Funeral Home, inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Devaney family.
