Obituary

Carman E. Welliver, Sr., age 86, a resident of Danville for over 58 years, died on Sunday morning, October 25, 2015 a patient of the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Carman had been battling ill health for the past few months due to a car accident.
Carman was born on Wednesday, October 31, 1928 in Pontiac, Michigan one of three boys to C. Mood and Dora Edith (Stocker) Welliver. After his family moved to the Bloomsburg area, he attended and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1946. During his education, Carman received his Aviation accreditation and pilot license through a school program training with a small select group of other young men from the Bloomsburg area. Immediately following high school, Carman enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force where he served his country faithfully during the end of World War II. Carman continued his service as a Corporal serving with the Amtrack Amphibious Vehicle unit during the Korean Conflict. After returning home to Bloomsburg following his honorable discharge, Carman met and married his late wife, the former Thelma M. Krum. They made their home in Danville in 1957 where they raised their four children.
Carman was employed for over 25 years by KAWNEER in Bloomsburg until his retirement on April 18, 1991. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as the Supervisor of the Maintenance Department. He was also employed previously at Merck and TRW in Danville. He and his wife were members of the Ridgeville U.C.C. and was most recently a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg. He was also a member of the Bloomsburg Moose L.O.O.M. #623, the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273, the Washington Lodge #265 F&AM, the Caldwell Consistory, and IREM Temple. He also participated for over 25 years in the U.S. National Bowling Congress, a member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Cherokee Golf Course where he worked during retirement. He was also employed at the Midway Lanes in Danville during his retirement.
Carman will be most remembered for his enthusiastic and dedicated involvement in the local Boy Scouts for over 60 years. He was noted as a Silver Beaver, the Order of the Arrow, the Wood Badge, a Scout Master, District Chairman of Columbia County, an Eagle Scout and the District Award of Merit.
In addition to his parents, Carman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Thelma M. (Krum) Welliver, who passed on August 22, 2011. He was also preceded in death by a brother in infancy, Elmer C. Welliver who passed on September 24, 1926; and also Lamar A. Welliver, Sr. who passed on August 25, 1996.
Surviving are his four children, his daughter: Donna Flick and husband, George, Sr., of Orangeville; Carman E. Welliver, Jr. and wife, Patty; Lamar A. Welliver II and Craig A. Welliver and wife, Michele, all of Danville; eight grandchildren: George Flick, Jr. and wife, Allison; Tanya Zanoline and husband, Aaron; Tammy Hikes and husband, Andrew; Brandon and Brock Welliver; and Evan, Kyra and Eli Welliver.
A time of Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon, October 30 from 1 to 2 p.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg. Masonic services will begin on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
Funeral services will also begin on Friday afternoon, October 30 at 2 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Gary D. Weaver, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Elan Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest next to his loving wife Thelma. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to be serving the Welliver and Flick families.
