Carl R. Hornberger, age 92, of Berwick, passed away on Sunday morning, January 11, 2026, at his home. He was a resident of his home in North Centre Township for over 50 years.
Carl was born on Sunday, August 27, 1933 in Helfenstein, a son of the late Clarence Edward and Leona Lena (Daniels) Hornberger. He graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1954. He faithfully served 22 years in the military and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1975. On March 31, 1961, Carl married his loving wife, the former Shirley E. Hummel. For many years, he was employed by Wise Potato Chip, Berwick working maintenance until his retirement in 1995. Carl attended the Berwick United Methodist Church. He was also a lifetime member of American Legion Post 273. Carl enjoyed spending his time hunting, being a football fan, working on cars, gardening and yard work, and meeting with retired co workers once a month for coffee. He especially enjoyed time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Carl was also preceded in death by his brother, Glenn H. Hornberger.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years: Shirley E. Hornberger of Berwick, three children: Christene Hornberger of Berwick, Carla Slowick and husband Lee of Nescopeck, Curtis Hornberger and wife Jaruwan of Gulfport, MS; five grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Hornberger and wife Joyce of SC.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Berwick United Methodist Church, 1000 Orange St. in Berwick.
A memorial service will begin on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 10:00 am at Berwick United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, officiating. Internment with military honors will immediately follow in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hornberger family.
