Burtus A. Wandell, age 77, of Bloomsburg went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after being admitted on Tuesday, June 2. Burt was born on March 8, 1932 in Berwick, the son of the late Samuel Blaine and Emma (Updegrove) Wandell. He was a 1948 graduate of Shickshinny High School. Burt was a Veteran of the Korean War. While serving with the U.S. Army, Burt achieved the rank of Corporal serving with the 37th AAA Gun Battalion, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a radar operator. Most of his working life, he was a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser. He originally owned and operated Wandell Real Estate which became Coldwell Banker Wandell Sofianek Realty. He was a member of Revival Tabernacle in Watsontown where he was a church elder. For many years, he belonged to Gideons International and Fellowship of Christian Farmers.Burt is preceded in death by his first wife: Betty (Deihl) Wandell on June 9, 1989, a daughter: Joyce A Wandell on May 12, 1989; a grandson: Taylor Cox in 1991; and two brothers: Lloyd and Russel Wandell.Survivors include his wife of nineteen years, Joella (Elsey) Wandell; a son: Burt A. Wandell and his wife Renee, Bloomsburg; a daughter: Paula Cox and her husband James, Rochester, NY; 5 grandchildren; and a sister: Alice Miller and husband Robert, Shickshinny.A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday at 3 P.M. at the Revival Tabernacle, 960 Susquehanna Trail, Watsontown, with his Pastor James R. Bond officiating. In honor of Burt's legacy of mentoring young men in their faith, memorial contributions are suggested to Revival Tabernacle's Paul and Timothy Young Mens Mentoring Program. Arrangements are in the care of the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market St., Bloomsburg.
