Beverly M. Mericle, age 88, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at her Buckhorn home where she resided for over 60 years.
She was born on Friday, July 1, 1932 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Harvey Larish and Violet (Bason) Brown. Throughout her younger years, Beverly attended the Bloomsburg Area Schools, including the third street school. On December 24, 1942, Beverly married her loving husband, Ralph E. Mericle, who preceded her in death on December 16, 1995. For over 27 years, Beverly was employed by Magee Carpet Company as a Spinner until her retirement.
Beverly loved to play and watch golf. For many years, Beverly and her beloved husband, Ralph were members at Rolling Pines Golf Course where she cherished the time they spent in the couples league. Beverly also created lifelong friendships and shared many laughs during Thursday Night Ladies League at Rolling Pines. She was especially proud of her hole in one she achieved in 1989. She displayed her love of the sun by routinely riding her scooter to the Bloomsburg town pool and spending summers at Rehoboth beach with the Severn family. Ralph and Beverly loved spending many weeks in Canada with the Bauman family. Ralph and Beverly spent many nights in the company of fellow bowlers at the Bloomsburg Elks bowling lanes and always looked forward to winning so they could take trips to attend regional bowling competitions. She was a friendly yet competitive bingo player at the Friendship Fire Company. Beverly put her crafting skills to work and frequently shared her projects with her friends and relatives. She enjoyed spending time on bus trips to Mohegan Sun with her friends as well as strategically selecting scratch off tickets throughout Bloomsburg shops. In her later years, Beverly spent winters in Florida with Jan Diltz.
The family is very grateful for the support and assistance from Geisinger Hospice, her home health care workers and family friend, Pam Farley. She will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends including her lifelong pal, Pat Lumley.
In addition to her parents and husband, Beverly was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley L. Wardrop.
Survivors include her niece, Karen Wardrop, nephew, Mark E. Wardrop and wife Ruth all of Bloomsburg, who ensured she was lovingly well cared for in her final years. Also surviving are two nieces, Pamela Spengler of MD, Julie wife of Jim Lewellyn of Bloomsburg, two great nieces, Rachael Wardrop and Allison Wardrop both of Maryland, and a sister, Joyce Spengler of Maryland.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Mericle family.
