Betty J. Walters, age 87, formerly of Bloomsburg, died on Friday, November 9, 2012, a resident of the Claremont Nursing and Rehab Center since June of 2011.
Betty was born on Wednesday, April 25, 1925 in Main Township, a daughter of the late Daniel H. and Bertha (Linn) Slusser. She was a graduate of the former Mainville High School. Betty was most recently employed by the State Farm Insurance Agency in Bloomsburg as a secretary for Agents Stanley LeVan and also Mary Ann Caputo. She was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ. She was also very active in working and serving in the kitchen during the church's dinners and bake sales. Betty was also a member of the Frosty Valley Country Club in Danville.
In April of 1990, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, the late Clyde W. Walters. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Jesse T. Walters; seven brothers: Wilbur, William, Fred, Norman, Paul, Charles, and Ambrose Slusser; and also three sisters: Elva Wolfe, Ruby Slusser, and Susan Slusser.
Survivors include her two sons: C. Terry Walters and wife, Mary E., of Mechanicsburg; and Richard D. Walters and wife, Cheryl, of Kennebunk, ME; three grandchildren: Eric Wagner, Shannon M. Walters and Natalie Walters; six great-grandchildren: Mia Walters-Pinci, Isabella V. Penica, Noah J. Penica, Farah Wagner, Dallas Wagner and Colton Wagner; and also a brother, James H. Slusser, of Bloomsburg; and a sister, Mary Reichart of Orangeville.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Monday, November 12 at 11 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Stephen D. Engelhardt, officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow in the Mifflinville Cemetery.
