Bessie J. Long, age 78, a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg, died on Thursday evening, April 30, 2015 at her home. She had been in failing health for several years.
Bessie was born on Tuesday, June 9, 1936 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Frank and Emma Wolfgang Chrisman. She attended the Bloomsburg schools.
On August 23, 1952, Bessie married Collins J. Long. He died March 24, 2008 ending 54 years of marriage.
For most of her working life, Bessie was employed as a clerk in the Mail Department of Geisinger Medical Center, Danville where she developed lifelong friendships which endured long after her retirement
Survivors include a daughter: Deborah Mensch and husband, David, of Nevada City, CA; a son Scott Long and wife, Donna, of Moscow, PA; three grandchildren: Bryan Oberdorf and Rose, Amanda Long and Alyssa Long and a sister Nancy Watts and husband, Leland, of Boyertown, PA., in addition to several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by a brother: Lester Shuler.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening, May 5, from 5 to 7 pm. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning, May 6, at 10 a.m. also at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., in Bloomsburg. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Long family.
