Barry John Haupt, age 66, formerly of Bloomsburg, died on Wednesday morning, March 16, 2016, a patient of the Wilkes Barre VA Medical Center in Luzerne County. Barry was a resident of his home in Wonderview for over 17 years.
Barry was born on Tuesday, September 20, 1949 in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Howard K. and Dorothy B. (Karpinski) Haupt. Throughout his younger years, Barry attended and later graduated from the Lourdes Regional High School in 1967. Immediately following his education, Barry enlisted in the United State Army in 1967 serving his country faithfully during the Vietnam War. Barry was stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam with the U.S. Army Military Police receiving the honors of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2nd AWD), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm, two overseas bars and two service stripes. Barry was honorably discharged from his time of service to his country on Nov. 18, 1975. After returning home, he was employed throughout the Bloomsburg area for many years. He was a member of the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273 and former member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria L. Sponenberg and husband, Mark of Bloomsburg; a daughter, Jennifer A. Anderson and husband, Michael, also of Bloomsburg; a son, Jonathan J. Haupt of Astoria, NY; a brother, David Haupt and wife, Mary Ann of Hazleton; a sister, Deborah Reidinger of Kennett Square, PA; a brother, Keith Haupt and wife, Elizabeth, of Bloomsburg; a granddaughter, Teresa Crane, a grandson, Howard Sponenberg, a granddaughter, Megan Anderson, a grandson, Gabriel Anderson and a grandson, Matthew Anderson, as well as numerous nephews and nieces
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening, March 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St. in Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Tuesday morning, March 22 at 9 a.m. at the St. Columba Catholic Church, Iron and Third St. in Bloomsburg with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence, celebrant. Graveside committal services with full Military Honors will immediately follow in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
