Barbara Ann (Girton) McGaw, age 77, of Almedia died unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, October 27, 2015 at her home in Scott Township.
Barbara was born on Tuesday, October 4, 1938 in Bloomsburg, one of three children to Jerry H. and Elva Mae (Hartman) Girton. Growing up in Bloomsburg, she attended the Bloomsburg area schools and graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1956. Immediately following her education, she met and married her husband, Samuel M. McGaw, of Bloomsburg on June 1, 1957. In addition to raising her two sons and caring for their family, Barbara was also employed at the former Robbins Furniture Store in Bloomsburg until its closing. She was then employed by the Bloomsburg Medicine Shoppe for over 27 years until retiring in 2001. She and her husband were members of the Shiloh Bible Church in Almedia where she taught Sunday school when her sons were very young. Barbara loved her family very much and also loved spending time on the computer and perfecting her various knitting projects.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by a sister: Beverly M. Girton in June of 2004.
Surviving is her beloved husband of 58 years, Samuel M. McGaw, of Almedia; two sons: Steve McGaw and Scott McGaw also of Almedia; and a brother: Gary D. Girton and wife, Katherine, of Bloomsburg, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday morning, November 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will also begin on Monday morning, November 2 at 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., in Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyons of the Shiloh Bible Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to be serving the McGaw family.
