Barbara Maxine McCaffrey

Barbara M. McCaffrey, age 91, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2026. She was born to the late Johnny Alexander and Hannah Evelyn (Temple) Nungesser on July 11, 1935. She had 10 sisters and 2 brothers and was the youngest of the 13 children.

She was employed by Bloomsburg University and worked on the custodial crew until her retirement after 26 years.

Barbara was married to the love of her life, Francis J. McCaffrey for 49 years. They lived in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and raised two children: a son, Christopher J. McCaffrey from Bloomsburg, PA and a daughter, Karen L. Melia, from North Carolina. Additionally, she was loved by 4 grandchildren: Brandon McCaffrey, Bloomsburg, Nicole Leiby, Bloomsburg, Sean J. Melia, North Carolina, (who adored his meme) and Andrew T. Melia, North Carolina.

Barbara was a member of the Catawissa Senior Center and enjoyed spending several days going on outing with them.

The friends she made there were especially warm in her heart!

Barbara was lucky enough to enjoy a second dear friendly relationship with Raymond O. Baylor, a friend she acquired at the Catawissa Senior Center. They became great friends and confidants for over 9 years! They both traveled out of state to visit each other and share some special moments together and wonderful companionship.

Barbara’s Funeral Service will be 11 AM Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Allen Funeral Home, Inc, 745 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Pastor Gordon E. Smith will officiate. Friends will be received from 9 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment at New Rosemont Cemetery will follow.
