Barbara J. Hughes, age 94, of Sunbury and formerly of Orangeville, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at her home where she lived for over 15 years.
Barbara was born on Saturday, June 7, 1930 in Espy, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Sallie (Dewald) Martz. She graduated from the former Scott Township High School. On March 26th, 1950 she married her loving husband, Leonard G. Hughes who preceded her in death on April 8, 2000. For over 11 years, Barbara was employed by Milco Industries as a seamstress until her retirement. She was a member of the Shiloh Bible Church, Almedia for 40 years. She was also a member of the Happy Group. Barbara enjoyed her marriage and family, her church friends, she loved her animals and gardening. She also enjoyed hunting with family. Barbara was a wonderful cook, and everyone loved her pies. She had a gift of being open to all people no matter where we went, they would approach and talk with her. She was a gentle loving woman and inspiration to her family. She will be missed.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was also preceded in death by a son; Leonard L. Hughes; a brother, Charles G. Martz, three sisters: Ethel Slater, Emma Madden, and Beatrice Harmon.
Survivors include her beloved daughter: Cathy Lytle and husband Terry of Sunbury; two grandchildren: Brock Lytle and wife Kelly of Danville and Brittany Lytle and her partner Jer Krepps of Sunbury; three great-grandchildren: Chastin Shiffer and husband Max of Lykens, Garrett Lytle, Conner Harrison; and three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dawn McHenry of Shickshinny.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Hughes family.
