Barbara A. Gross, age 68, formerly of 100 Leonard St., Bloomsburg, died Saturday, October 10, in the Geisinger Medical Center where she was admitted Monday. Barbara had been in declining health for the past month. She was a resident of her former home for 35 years and had most recently resided at 330 West Third St., Bloomsburg since 2007.
Barbara was born on Sunday, June 15, 1941 in Bloomsburg, the only daughter of the late Hugh W. and Julia M. Sheets Gross. She was a 1959 graduate of the Bloomsburg High School and would have celebrated at 50th reunion with her classmates if her health had permitted. For over 30 years she owned and operated Barb's Beauty Salon. Also, she was employed for many years by Magee Carpet Co. as a secretary. She was well known for "Barb's Funnel Cakes" at the Bloomsburg Fair.
As an active member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Barbara, participated in many food services activities including Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her only sibling Terry Gross in 2006. Survivors include a niece: Julia A. Sim and husband, Robert and a nephew: Hugh W. Gross and wife, Carol, both of Bloomsburg; great nieces : Lauren Sim and Elizabeth Gross and great nephew: Matthew Gross, all of Bloomsburg. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 101 East Fifth St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Ralph B. Hartenbach, officiating.
