Arthur J. "Bud" Underwood , age 94, of Bloomsburg, died on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family and under the care of Columbia Montour Hospice. Bud was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg and had lived in his current home for 65 years.
Arthur was born on June 11, 1922 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Arthur and Maude (Bigart) Underwood. Throughout his younger years, Arthur attended the Bloomsburg Normal School and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School. During World War II, Arthur Underwood faithfully served his country as an Aviation Machinist's Mate in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Bud was a florist and worked with his father at the Underwood Greenhouse in Bloomsburg for many years. He then served as a bank guard for Bloomsburg Bank Columbia Trust for 18 years until his retirement.
Arthur was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was also a member of the Washington Lodge #265 F&AM, Caldwell Consistory, Ft. McClure VFW Post #804, Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post #273, Disabled American Veterans. Arthur enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, and gardening.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was also preceded by his beloved wife of 55 years, Georgianna (Smith) Underwood of Hughesville, on October 13, 2001 and a brother: Wayne Underwood.
Survivors include his son, George K. Underwood and wife, Betty, of Danville, granddaughter: Joann Kelly and husband, Patrick, of Alexandria VA and grandsons: Curt Underwood and wife, Patricia, of Lynnfield MA and Derek Underwood and wife, Britt, of San Francisco CA and four great grandchildren.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 101 East Main St., Bloomsburg.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 2:30 pm with his pastor, Rev. Howard Sasser, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Pleasant Hills Cemetery, Hughesville. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Underwood family.
