Obituary

Arnold J. Pegg, age 89, a long time resident of Lightstreet, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 in the Geisinger Medical Center. Arnold was born on Thursday, October 5, 1922 in Scott Twp. a son of the late Charles Frank and Clara Daisy Pegg. He attended the Bloomsburg High School.
Arnold served with the US Army during World War 2. He marched under General Patton in the 28th Infantry Division and participated in the Battle of Hurtgen Forest in Germany. For his valiancy in service, he received three Gold Stars for Bravery and a Good Conduct Medal.
Following his military service, Arnold was employed for many years by Milco Industries. He concluded his working career in 1978 with retirement from E.R. Beers Electric after eight years of service.
He was a member of St Luke Lutheran Church of Lightstreet.
During retirement, Arnold was active volunteering with many local organizations including: Bloomsburg Ambulance, Susquehanna Valley Medical Specialties, Bloomsburg Hospital Medics, Columbia County Transportation, and the Bloomsburg American Red Cross. He was a member of Ft. McClure, Post 804 VFW, the Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion, Post 273, a life member of the Lightstreet Fire Co. and also a life member of the Catawissa Hose Co.
Arnold was also the former Superintendent of the Lightstreet Highland Cemetery.
In 1942, Arnold married Esther (Hilliard) Pegg who survives. Also surviving are three daughters: Jean L. Leighow and husband, Jay, of Bloomsburg; Joan Wynings and husband, Thomas, of Northumberland; Janet Morias and husband, Carroll, of Sacramento CA; two sons: William Pegg of Lightstreet and Robert A. Pegg and wife, Marie, of Danville; four granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lula Boston and Grace Hartman and a brother: Willard Pegg.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home with his pastor, Rev. Jeffrey G. Bohan, officiating. Graveside services will be held in the Lightstreet Highland Cemetery. A combined VFW/American Legion Group will provide Military Honors. The family will provide flowers, and ask that memorial contributions be made to: Wounded Warriors at woundedwarriorsproject.org.
