Obituary

Arlene Rosa Teichberg, age 83, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at her home in Bloomsburg where she lived for over 3 years.

She was born on Saturday, November 16, 1940 in New York City, a daughter of the late Henry Goldberg and Ann (Glazer) Messing. Arlene graduated from high school in the Bronx and expanded her education by attending Fordham University, NY, graduating with a doctorate degree in Social Work. In 1996 she married her loving husband, Steve Koepfer who preceded her in death in 2005. For many years, Arlene practiced Family Therapy as a Doctor of Social Work until her retirement in 2001. She attended the Spirit Life Church in Bloomsburg and the Center for Positive Living in Boca Raton, FL.

She was a member of the National Association of Social Work, an Ordained Minister at Center for Positive Living, and was active in the Parkinson's Foundation. She enjoyed spending her time being outside in nature, hiking, camping, exploring and bird watching She was an active community organizer for mental health support groups, she was a published Poet of a collection of poems, Sunflowers. Arlene was a loving mother of two children, a beloved grandmother to her grandson and a devoted aunt to two nieces, their spouses and her grand-nieces. She survived forty years with Parkinson's Disease and participated in innovative therapies including groundbreaking stem cell research.

In addition to her parents and spouse, Arlene was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Rubin Messing and a son-in-law, Robert E. Friend.

Survivors include her two beloved children; Lisa J. Friend of Jensen Beach, FL, Glenn D. Teichberg of Bloomsburg, a grandson, Andrew R. Friend and wife Rachel of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and a brother, Barry Goldberg and wife Linda of Seaford, DE and two nieces, Debra of Charlotte, NC and Robin of Katonah, NY, and their daughters, Abby, Megan, Jocey and Vicky.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Teichberg family.
