Alice E. Hinkle, age 61, of Rupert Drive, Bloomsburg, died Thursday, June 21, at her home. She had been ill since October. Alice was a resident of her Montour Twp. home for 30 years. She was born on Wednesday, November 1, 1950, in Newport News, Virginia, a daughter of Dorothy (Akins) Strauss of Bloomsburg.
After graduating from the Lenape High School in New Jersey, Alice continued her education to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. For 25 years, she was employed at the Danville State Hospital until retiring in 2000.
During her retirement years, Alice thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at EOS Therapeutic Riding Center in Buckhorn. She also enjoyed fishing trips and spending cottage time with her family.
Surviving in addition to her mother is her husband of nearly 30 years: Michael J. Hinkle; a son: Thomas C. Johnson III of Philadelphia; a daughter: Gabriella of Selinsgrove; three grandchildren: Anna, Tatum and Lucas; a sister: Dorothy Oestreich of Mainville; three brothers: Robert LaRue and wife, Karen, of Southampton, NJ, Charles LaRue of Catawissa and Daniel LaRue and wife, Mary, of Willingboro NJ; mother-in-law: Irene (Dennison) Hinkle of Danville and two brothers-in-law: William Hinkle of Lewistown and Thomas Hinkle and wife, Martha, of Eyers Grove.
A time of Visitation for Family and friends will be held on Monday, June 25 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, June 25 at 10 a.m. from the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Chad Carter, from the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside services will be held in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Franklin Twp. The Immediate family will provide flowers.
