Obituary

On 31 May 2022, Alberta L. Ciero, Bloomsburg, went home to be with the Lord. Born on February 12, 1939 to James and Helen (LaCoe) Vanderberg in Newton, PA, Alberta graduated from Newton-Ransom High School in 1957. She lived and worked in Scranton, PA until 1973 when she moved with her husband and kids to South Centre Township. She retired in 2001 from Central Columbia High School after nearly three decades in food service.
Alberta married Robert A. Ciero on February 28, 1959 and had three children: Kimberly D. Ciero (Kansas), Robert A. Ciero, Jr & wife Lorine (Arizona) and Mark K. Ciero & wife Elaine (Vermont); as well as, six grandchildren: Jaime (Austin) Heer & husband Daylin, Chloe Ciero LaCrosse, Kiley (Ciero) Adolph & husband Kirk, Michael Ciero, Benjamin Ciero & wife Ciara, and Jonathan Ciero. She also has two great-grandchildren: Daniel and Elijah Heer.
Alberta is survived by a brother, Kenneth Vanderberg & wife Alice in Factoryville, PA. She was predeceased by two brothers: James and William, as well as, five sisters: Hulda Stevens, Hazel Vanderberg, Helen Spencer, Louise Delucy, and Charlotte Palman.
Alberta has been a member of Shiloh Bible Church, Almedia, for five decades and enjoyed worshipping the Lord and serving Him by serving others. She used her Godly-gifts in the kitchen and nursery. She volunteered with Geisinger/Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary and deployed with Red Cross Disaster Relief.
Throughout her life, Alberta relished gardening (especially flowers), canning (her applesauce was a grandkids treat), traveling (first camping and later cruising) as well as, visits to and from family and friends. In her lifetime, she saw 48 States (missing Oregon and Washington) and at least 15 countries, plus many of the Caribbean Islands. In the last months, she and the close family were so grateful to the many that made memories, especially those that prayed, delivered food, sent flowers, and wrote cards, the cards that she read and re-read in a collage covering the dining room table.
A celebration of Alberta's life will be held on Saturday afternoon, June 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church Street, (Almedia) Bloomsburg with Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Ciero family.
