Albert P. Smith, age 89, of Catawissa, died on Monday, February 20, 2017, a patient of the Grandview Health Homes, Danville.
Albert was born on Friday, July 15, 1927 in Freeport, New York, a son of the late Albert P. and Jane Frances (Leahy) Smith. Albert graduated from the Freeport High School. Following high school, Albert faithfully served his country during World War II, he was honorably discharged from the US Navy.
For many years, Albert was employed by Interstate Freight System as a Truck Driver until his retirement in 1984. Albert was a member of the Catholic Faith and most recently attended the Catawissa United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion. Albert enjoyed playing his guitar with the Bloomsburg Senior Center Band.
In addition to his parents, Albert was also preceded by his wife of nearly 69 years, Frances (Langdon) Smith on December 27, 2016 and a sister, Edith Meyer.
Survivors include seven children: Susan P. Machemer, and husband, Thomas, of Rockville Centre, NY, JoAnn Marro and husband, Ralph, of Albertson, NY, Billie Sue Scotto of Lynbrook, NY, Julie C. Dillon and husband, David of Idyllwild, CA,
Daniel B. Smith of Bloomsburg, PA, David A. Smith of Chapel Hill, NC, and Frances J. Smith of Manheim; 12 Grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a brother, John Smith and wife, Carolyn, of Homosassa, FL.
Funeral Services will begin on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in with Rev. Michael Spagnuolo, Catawissa Christian Church,officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the Smith family.
