Aileen K. Sorber, age 87, of Williamsport, passed on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a patient of the Gate House Inpatient Hospice Care UPMC facility, Williamsport, surrounded by her loving family.
Aileen was born on Friday, December 24, 1937 in Kingston, a daughter of the late Joseph Leonard and Stella Katherine (Masgay) Karabon. After Stella's passing, she was raised by her stepmother, Margaret Karabon. She graduated from the Kingston Borough Schools in 1955. Aileen expanded her education by attending George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital and Foss Clinic School of Nursing in 1958. On July 5, 1958, Aileen married her loving husband, Jack V. Sorber, who preceded her in death on December 2, 2014. For over 39 years, she worked at various nursing care facilities such as Geisinger Hospital, Nursing home, Columbia Montour Home Health as an RN until her retirement in 1997. She earned recognition from both her workplaces and the YMCA.
Aileen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bloomsburg for over 50 years, actively participating in congregational life and community service. She was a lifelong lover of swimming and shared her passion by teaching water aerobics. Aileen loved beach swimming with her family every summer in Cape Hatteras, NC. She was celebrated for her home cooked meals and amazing baked goods, and she would baked the most delicious fresh sticky buns during the winter months bringing joy and comfort. She also loved serving pierogies and kielbasa as well as Pennsylvania Dutch dishes. Aileen enjoyed watching college football on Saturdays, looking at maps, and traveling she made two trips to Poland, the homeland of her ancestors.
An enthusiastic quilter, she often crafted unique creations for friends and family. She was known as a cherished wife, loving mother and devoted grandmother. Aileen will be remembered for her kindness, her active involvement in her church and quilting community, and her commitment to living life fully and generously. She leaves behind a legacy of love, care, and devotion to her family and community.
In addition to her parents and husband, Aileen was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Dye, and three siblings.
Survivors include her beloved two children: Scott P. Sorber and wife Noelia Huertas of Williamsport, Lynn Sorber Dugan of Bloomsburg; two grandsons: Dylan P. and Jackson T. Sorber.
Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Sorber family.
