Ada Shearer was born in Oldham Lancaster, England. Ada was the daughter of the late Joshua and Amy Byrom Morris. Ada passed away on Friday, August 27 in her home on East Street in Bloomsburg. Ada was a much loved member of the community.
She leaves behind her devoted brothers, G. Frederick Morris and Robert Morris and her Shih Tzu, Angel, whom she loved very much; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Shearer, proprietor of Shearer's Grocery Store and brothers Jack Morris, Sam Morris and Walter Morris.
Ada was a graduate of Bloomsburg High School. She later went on to continue her education at the Pennsylvania State University, and was a sorority sister of the Epsilon Lota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi where she received the Ritual of Jewels and held many offices before becoming president of the chapter in Bloomsburg.
She was employed as a private secretary at Magee Carpet Company for 27 years. Ada modeled for many years for Junior Miss Fashions and JJ fashions of Harrisburg; she was also involved in local fashion shows. Ada was a longtime member of the St. Paul Episcopal Church in Bloomsburg. An active member of the community, Ada was a member of the Junior Women, a civic organization, the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary, and the Fad of the Month Club. Ada always found time to volunteer at the Bloomsburg Healthcare Center and treated the residents with Christmas and Birthday parties in addition to hosting many other activities. She enjoyed tennis, swimming, biking, and walking. Ada was also a very talented artist and is pictured throughout the local community.
Ada was a very compassionate person who spent her life helping others. She was always willing to lend a hand and was known for her wonderful smile. She will be thoroughly missed by all.
A memorial service with Requiem Eucharist will be held Wednesday, September 1, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, East Main and Iron Streets, Bloomsburg with The Rev. Canon Marjorie Menaul ,Rector officiating. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 – 11 a.m.
