Walter J. Casazza, age 92, of Millville, died on Monday evening, December 19, 2016, surrounded by his family and under the care of Geisinger Columbia Montour Hospice at Maria Hall in Danville. Walter was born on Sunday, November 2, 1924 in Hazleton, a son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Broton) Casazza. Throughout his younger years he attended the Hazleton area schools and expanded his education by attending Penn State in Hazelton studying Electrical Engineering. On July 23, 1948 Walter enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country faithfully as an Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class. After returning home, Walter was employed by Cabot Corporation for many years as an Electrical Engineer and was also employed by the Lutheran Welfare Service. On April 10, 1992, Walter married the former Rose Marie Stefanovich, sharing their wedding vows in the former St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millville. Walter was also a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Unityville for many years and served on the church council. Walter was always renowned in Columbia County for his national recognition as a fancy chicken breeder and specializing in the Dominique breed. He also served as the manager of the poultry department and shows of the local Bloomsburg Fair for many years. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, Adam and Charles Casazza, and also by a sister, Marcella Casazza. Surviving is his beloved wife of 24 years, Rose Marie (Stefanovich) Casazza of Millville; his only son, Mark Casazza and wife, Debbie, New Bremen, OH; a grandson: Chris Casazza of Hanover Township; and a granddaughter: Megan Casazza, New Bern, NC. A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 23 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth Street in Bloomsburg. Funeral services will also be held on Friday, December 23 at 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in Bloomsburg with his pastor, Rev. Ronald G. Montgomery of the St. John Lutheran Church Officiating. Graveside committal services with full Military Honors will immediately follow in Lime Ridge. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to be serving the Casazza family.
