Samuel M. McGaw, age 83, a life long resident of Bloomsburg, died on Tuesday evening, December 27, 2016, a resident of the Gardens at Orangeville. Sam was born on Sunday, November 26, 1933 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Thomas M., Sr. and Sarah E. (Varner) McGaw. Throughout his younger years, Sam attended the Bloomsburg area schools, and later graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1954 where he was remembered for his skills on the football field. Immediately following his education, Sam enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Corporal with the 271st Engineer Battalion Company C during the development and testing of the atomic bomb. On June 1, 1957, Sam married the former Barbara Ann Girton of Bloomsburg having raised two children together. For many years, Sam was employed by PA Liquor Control Board as an clerk and working in many stores in Bloomsburg and Berwick. He was also employed for 10 years as a driver with the local K Cab. Sam was a member of the Bloomsburg American Legion #273 and also a life member of Bloomsburg Moose L.O.O.M #623. In addition to his parents, Samuel was also preceded by his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara Ann (Girton) McGaw who passed on October 27, 2015. Also preceded is a brother, Carl H. McGaw, sister, Flora McGaw, sister, Donna Jean McGaw, brother, Harry L. McGaw, brother, George F. McGaw, brother, Norman D. McGaw, brother, Thomas M. McGaw, Jr., sister, M. Wanda Swartz, brother, W. Fred McGaw, brother, Robert M. McGaw. Survivors include his two sons: Steve M. McGaw and Scott M. McGaw both of Bloomsburg, and a sister, Elaine McGaw of Orangeville. Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held on Wednesday morning, January 4 at 10 a.m. in the Elan Memorial Park Cemetery, Lime Ridge with Rev. Dr. Douglas H. Lyon, officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., is honored to be serving the McGaw family.
