November 5, 1957 - October 8, 2020
Kathy Lynn (Hirschi) Lowe, Bloomsburg, died peacefully on October 8th, surrounded by her family, love, and laughter after a more than five year fight with metastatic breast cancer. Kathy was born on November 5, 1957 in Brooklyn, the oldest child of John and Carole Hirschi. She grew up in Lanham, MD, graduated from Douglas Southall Freeman HS in Richmond, and earned a B.A. in Government and Philosophy from the College of William & Mary. Kathy was a devoted daughter, sister, and mother, supporting and supported by her family. She is survived by her mother, Carole Hirschi, St. Johns, FL, her sister, Susan Ross and husband Lexie of Richmond, her brother, David, Pigeon Forge, TN, and sister, Linda Lane, Ponte Vedra, FL. In addition she is survived by her four beloved children, Jessica Carole and husband Jake Baigis of Nashville, TN, Ian Cameron, Bloomsburg, Alexander David and wife Katherine of Greensboro, NC, and Rebecca Elizabeth and partner Kyle Stokes, Prineville, OR. Kathy and husband, Scott, moved to Bloomsburg in 1987. In addition to being a mother, Kathy worked, first at Main Street Interiors, and then earned her real estate license in 2004. After ten years as a Realtor, she formed her own company as one of the KEY Partners. Kathy’s hard work, care, and training helped make KEY Partners, LLC one of the most successful real estate agencies in the region. Kathy cared deeply about our community and contributed her time, talent, and energy to numerous local organizations. Her commitment to service was instilled at a very young age by her father. Kathy completed service as a board member of Downtown Bloomsburg, Inc., the United Way of Columbia and Montour Counties, AGAPE, and Columbia-Montour Council of Boy Scouts of America, and was very proud to be serving as a board member of Community Strategies Group at the time of her passing. Kathy’s commitment to service is exemplified by her selection, in 2011, as REALTOR of the Year by the Central Susquehanna Board of Realtors, and by the Columbia- Montour Council BSA as 2015 Volunteer of the Year. As much as all of these volunteer roles meant to Kathy, none exceeded her fierce commitment to raising funds for metastatic breast cancer research. Despite the billions of dollars available to breast cancer organizations nationwide, only 7% of funding goes to research on metastatic breast cancer, even though it affects 30% of all those diagnosed with breast cancer. For Kathy, these numbers were unacceptable, and motivated her commitment to raising tens of thousands of dollars for research into finding a cure for metastatic cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Office of Philanthropy, PO Box 1883, Allentown, PA 18105; gifts should be designated for the Kathy L. Lowe Cancer Education and Research Fund. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday October 14, 2020 at 1:30 pm in the Memorial Garden of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 101 East Main St., Bloomsburg with Rev. Jim Strader-Sasser, officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Lowe family.
