John Michael Chyko, age 82, of Lutherville, MD passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, a resident of the Charter Senior Living of Towson. John was a resident of his home in Lutherville for 5.5 years and was formerly of Toms River, NJ.
He was born on Tuesday, April 1, 1941 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late John A. and Mary H. (Kowalski) Chyko.He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg. He graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1959. John expanded his education by attending Bloomsburg University, and later in his life he earned a master's degree in environmental education. On November 20, 1971, John married his loving wife, the former Leslie Rauh. For over 38 years, he was employed by Toms River Schools as an elementary school teacher until his retirement in 1998.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren. John was a St. Louis Cardinals mega fan; he enjoyed hunting with family and friends and staying at the hunting cabin that he and his dad built. He also enjoyed attending high school reunions; surf fishing in Island Beach State Park; growing tomatoes and solving word search puzzles.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Leslie Chyko of Lutherville, a daughter, Magan Chyko Leigh and spouse Angela Euculano Leigh of Lutherville, two grandchildren; Calvin Leigh, Sadie Leigh, four siblings; James S. Chyko and spouse Diane of Bloomsburg, Charles Chyko and spouse Lana of Bloomsburg, Christine Haldeman and spouse Michael of Mechanicsburg, and Barbara Tosi and spouse Charles of Westerville, OH, and also many nieces and nephews.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 745 Market at Eighth St, Bloomsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 10:00 am in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron Street, Bloomsburg with Rev. Richard J. Mowery, Celebrant. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to be serving the Chyko family.
