Dorothy W. Evert

August 1, 1918 - May 27, 2016

Dorothy W. Evert, age 97, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016, at her home. She had resided in Bloomsburg for many years of her life as well. She was born on Thursday, Aug. 1, 1918, in Palmerton, daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Daisy (Wagner) Wallen. Dorothy lived briefly in Lansford, before moving to Kulpmont, where she graduated in 1937 from the Kulpmont High School. Dorothy married Samuel H. Evert on Oct. 2, 1937, in All Saints Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kulpmont, with the Rev. Paul L. Reaser officiating. While a resident of Kulpmont, she was an auxiliary member of the Ladies Lions Association and was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Chrysanthemum Chapter of Mount Carmel. Prior to coming to Bloomsburg in 1946, Dorothy resided in Richmond, Va. Lost Tree Village, West Palm Beach, Fla., was her home since 1976, and she spent summers in Bloomsburg. In 2002, she became a permanent resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Dorothy was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Bloomsburg, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary as well as Geisinger Women’s Auxiliary. Additionally she was a member of Susquehanna University Auxiliary and Ladies Golf Association of Frosty Valley Country Club. She was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother who was the heart of the family. She will be greatly missed by her children and family. Survivors include two daughters: Carol A. Ent of Bloomsburg; and Sandra E. Giunta and husband, Aldo, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sons: Harry S. Evert and wife, Lynn, of Palm City, Fla.; and Samuel H. Evert Jr. and wife Janie, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great‑grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Samuel H. Evert, and her grandson, Joey Ent. A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 Market St., Bloomsburg. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Lime Ridge.
