Betty J. "Boots" Bowman

April 3, 1940 - January 8, 2022

Loving Matriarch, Inspector, Restaurant Owner, Betty J. "Boots" Bowman, age 81, of Bloomsburg ended her life’s journey on the morning of January 8, 2022, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of her Mount Pleasant Twp. home for over 64 years. She was born on Wednesday, April 3, 1940, to the late Ernest and Fanny Belle (Evans) Shultz of Bloomsburg and attended Bloomsburg schools. Betty married the love of her life, John R. Bowman on August 31, 1956. Together they strengthened their love for one another by working together on their dairy farm, creating a homestead, and raising five children. Betty’s husband preceded her death on September 1, 1995. Betty continued to be the nucleus of the family with all her children now living adjacent to the homestead with the dairy farm still being operated by her son, Donald and his wife Kathy. Betty was employed outside the home for 16 years working as an egg inspector at Agway in Bloomsburg. She prided herself in being egg"ceptional" at her job. She later became the owner of NorPole restaurant in Orangeville where she also was a cook and was known for her buckwheat pancakes, NorPole burgers, and the best soft ice cream in town. The simplest pleasure in life brought great joy to Betty. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. In particular, she enjoyed years of attending Draft Horse Pulling Competitions. Since her illness she continued to enjoy them virtually. Her sons, Tom and Jim carry on her love as award winning trainers. Betty had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities, even if it included grocery shopping or cooking for her children, babysitting her grandchildren, or simply being a cheerleader or listening ear for her family members. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. She used that skill while a part time clerk at Bloomsburg University welcoming students to the University Bookstore. Some of her hobbies included playing bingo, watching her grandchildren participate in sports, and casino trips with her sisters and niece to try their luck. She also enjoyed vacations at her Delaware beach house with her daughters, Susie and Sandy. Betty’s utmost legacy is that she was a very generous person who cared deeply for her family. She will be sadly missed by her son Donald Bowman and his wife Kathy, daughter Susan Snyder and her husband Greg, her son Jim Bowman, her son Tom Bowman and his wife Kelly and her daughter Sandy Bowman Burgess. She is also survived by her sister, Charlotte and her husband, Ken Girton and a sister-in-law, Gloria Shultz. Her steadfast love will also be missed by her 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lastly, her lapdog companion, Diesel, will surely miss his owner. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Harry Shultz, one sister, Maxine Kase and two grandsons, Nathan Bowman and Cory Lemon, all of Bloomsburg. Graveside Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 2:00 pm in New Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg with Pastor Scott Lyons, officiating. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Bowman family. Memorial contributions in Betty's name are suggested to: American Diabetes Association 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or a charity of the donor's choice.
