Walter Robinson

Walter Robinson, age 95, of Millertown Road, Bloomsburg, died on Sunday afternoon, February 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by family. He has been a resident of his home in Mt. Pleasant Township for the past seven years and also formerly a resident of Foley, Alabama and Bloomsbury, New Jersey. Walter was born on Thursday, July 12, 1917 in Pendleton, England, a son of the late John and Sarah (Edwards) Robinson. He was a graduate of the East Orange High School in New Jersey. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Army on January 24, 1941 where he served with the 9th Infantry Division in Tunisia, North Africa. During his time of service, he was severely wounded following a bombing raid. He was later awarded the distinguished honor of the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. On February 2, 1944, he was honorably discharged from his time of dedicated service to his country. After returning home to New Jersey, he was employed as a fireman by the city of Orange, New Jersey and later by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Most recently, Walter was also employed by the State of New Jersey for over 30 years as a Lieutenant Conservation Officer until his retirement in 1977. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. In addition to his parents, Walter was also preceded by a step-father: Samuel Lea, and his seven siblings: Jack, Jim, Lillian, Arthur, Thomas, Ruth and William. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving is his beloved wife of 70 years, Regina (Gmeiner) Robinson. Also surviving are his four children: Regina Tomer and husband, Eugene, of Little York, NJ; Walter D. Robinson of Foley, AL; Patricia Apgar and husband, Dale, of Milford, NJ; and Mary Lea and husband, Richard, of Bloomsburg; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A time of Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 107 W. Main at Railroad Street, Millville, PA 17846. Funeral services will also begin on Thursday, February 28 at 2 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. in Millville with Rev. Robert w. Strozyk of the Mill-Green United Methodist Church, officiating. Walter will be laid to rest in the Bloomsbury Cemetery, New Jersey. The Millville American will be providing full Military Honors.
