Shirley F. Drake

Shirley F. Drake, age 86, of Bloomsburg, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, a patient of the Bloomsburg Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Saturday, November 3, 1934 in McKeesport, a daughter of the late George and Nina (Pickell) Frey. Shirley graduated from the Bloomsburg High School in 1952. On June 6, 1953, Shirley married her loving husband, Leonard R. Drake who preceded her in death on February 24, 2008. For over 40 years, Shirley was employed by Columbia County in the Treasurer's office and served as the County Treasurer for over 24 years until her retirement on December 31, 2007. Shirley was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. She was also a member of the Columbia County Elected Officials Association; Soroptimist International; American Red Cross Board of Directors and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Shirley donated her time to: United Way; American Heart Association; American Cancer Society; Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary; Bloomsburg Library Drive; YMCA, and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Shirley initiated a program in 1998 which gave free identification tags with each dog license sold through the Treasurer's office. The program is run in conjunction with local police departments and the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals and has been instrumental in the return of many lost dogs. She enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach and trips to New York City to see plays and shows on Broadway and loved to play cards and go to movies with family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Frey Bealor. Survivors include her beloved children, Scott Drake and wife Sandra of Chambersburg, Kris Drake and wife Lori of South Williamsport, seven grandchildren, Jason Sellers and wife Sunshine of Aynor, SC, Megan wife of Richard Ramsey of Chambersburg, Allison wife of Ryan Beaudry of Chambersburg, Emily wife of Joey Roper of Hanahan, SC, Sarah wife of Nick Gower of Jersey Shore, Abby Drake of South Williamsport, Zachary Mutchler of South Williamsport, ten great grandchildren, Danica Beaudry of Chambersburg, Zoey Ramsey of Chambersburg, Rylan Ramsey of Chambersburg, Jase Ramsey of Chambersburg, Noah Ramsey of Chambersburg, Jameson Roper of Hanahan, SC, Savanna Sellers of Aynor, SC, Madison Sellers of Aynor, SC, Freyja Gower of Jersey Shore, PA, and Brielle Gower of Jersey Shore, PA. In accordance with Shirley's wishes there will be no public memorial service. Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg is honored to be serving the Drake family.
