Janis S. Labour, age 65, a lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant Twp., Columbia County, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 31, 2014 in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she had been a patient for one week.
Janis was born on Tuesday, February 15, 1949 in Bloomsburg, the only daughter of the late Byron and Esther Jean (Crawford) Labour. In 1967 she graduated from Central Columbia High School and she continued her education at Lancaster School of the Bible.
Since 1992, Janis was Manager of the Bloomsburg Salvation Army Store. During her 24 year career with Salvation Army she was also active with Columbia-Montour Chamber of Commerce. It was the vision and calling of Janis to provide a Community Christmas Dinner. This vision was realized by the direction of Janis and held at Caldwell Consistory serving 500 people for the past four years. This legacy will continue through the faith and service of Journeymate Ministries.
Janis served Agape of Bloomsburg and was currently was a very active member of the congregation of Journeymate Ministry of Lightstreet.
Survivors include her three brothers: Lonnie C. Labour of Baldwinsville NY, Dennis A. Labour and wife, Elizabeth, of LaGrange KY and Monty B. Labour of Berwick. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
A visitation time for family and friends will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market St. Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Journeymate Ministry, 1700 Main St. of Lightstreet, with Janis' pastor, Rev. Thomas J. Carney, officiating. Burial will be in Canby Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Twp.
Because Janis was Director of Journeymate Ministry Benevolence Fund, her family requests memorial contributions be made to that ministry, 1700 Main St. Bloomsburg, PA 17815. This will further and be consistent with her desire to help others.
