David J. Linnet , age 69, of Bloomsburg, died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, a patient of the Emmanuel Nursing Center in Danville, following an extended illness.
David was born on Saturday, November 30, 1946 in, Shamokin, PA and was the son of Dorothy (Vallish) Linnet and Dr. John Konopka Linnet of Shamokin. David was a 1960 graduate of Shamokin High School, attended Villanova University and graduated from Temple University in 1970.
In the early 1970's, David started the Alaska Stove Company, and manufactured both wood burning and coal burning stoves which are still being manufactured today. In 1995, David joined his wife, Carol, in operating the Maple Lake Sports Camp of Forksville PA and was very active there until the initial stages of his illness in 2011.
For 30 years David met with his coffee klatch (a group of professionals) every Friday for breakfast to solve the "world's problems" of the day.
When not working, his passion was skiing of which he could never get enough. Nothing delighted him more than taking a group down the black diamond "slippery slopes". His famous slogan was "follow me"~~as we did again during our rollerblading trips down World's End mountain frightening the skaters of ten drafting each other in line at speeds of 30 mph, vowing "never
again".
David is survived by his wife, Carol (Bailey) Houk Linnet, his son from a previous marriage, Chase Linnet of Danville; his former wife, Linda Linnet of Danville; his sister, Karen (Linnet) Meyers of Dallas TX; his cousin, Alexandra Simmonds of Washington DC; his niece, Laura Schneider and daughter, Alma, of New York NY and his nephew, Lucas Meyers of Austin TX. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Linnet of Shamokin. David was a devoted and fun loving husband, a wonderful father and a loyal brother.
David will be remembered with a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Inn at Turkey Hill's Brew Pub, 991 Center Road, Bloomsburg at 4:00 p.m. Those planning to attend are asked to confirm their intentions via email at
