David Gary Landers

David Gary Landers, age 90, of 270 Ridgecrest Circle, Lewisburg, died Thursday, March 25, 2010 in the RiverWoods Nursing Facility, Lewisburg where he had resided for two months. He had been in failing health for the past year. Mr. Landers was born Wednesday, February 4, 1920 in Whitney Point, NY, a son of the late Erford and Lula Weaver Landers. In his youth Mr. Landers was an accomplished member of 4-H. At the age of 17 while attending a national 4-h camp in Washington DC, he was selected to greet President Franklin D. Roosevelt on behalf of all the youth in attendance. After high school graduation he operated the family poultry farm for 12 years. He was then employed by GLF (later known as Agway) as a regional manager in the poultry division. He worked in numerous NY state locations until 1955, when he was then transferred to the egg plant in Bloomsburg PA. He was the manager 15 years residing in Sherwood Village. In 1970 he was transferred to the Weedsport NY plant. After a 30 years career he retired in 1980. After retirement he served as mayor of Weedsport from 1982 thru 1988. In order to live near his sons and their families, Dave returned to Bloomsburg in 1989. He moved to the RiverWoods senior living community in 2003. He recently celebrated his ninetieth birthday, an event he and his family much anticipated. Dave was formerly a member of the Weedsport Masonic Lodge, the Bloomsburg Elks and the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy (Humphery) Landers in 1977 and Mary (McGaw) Landers in 1988 as well as his three brothers: Charles, John and Roger. Survivors include his wife Marie (Heffelfinger Lyle) Landers; three sons: Phillip Landers and wife, Gail, of Williamsport; Eric Landers and wife, Marrolyn, of Forksville and Bernard Landers and wife, Patricia, of Bloomsburg; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three step-children: Lynda Lyle of Knoxville TN, Michael McGaw of Saratoga Springs NY and Thomas McGaw of Andover MA; six step-grandchildren and numerous step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Saturday, April 3 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 745 Market at Eighth St. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Elan Memorial Park, 5595 Old Berwick Rd., Bloomsburg. The family will provide flowers; contributions in his memory are suggested to RiverWoods, Benevolent Care Fund, 90 Maplewood Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
